How to Prevent and Control Infections During COVID-19

In light of the ongoing news regarding coronavirus, Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) is vital to keep both patients and medical professionals safe.

We are all in this together and need to work collaboratively to support each other, whether you’re working on the frontline, or doing your part by staying home and abiding by government guidelines and social distancing safety measures.

At DS Medical we decided to put together a helpful guide on how to prevent infections and control the spread of bacteria.

Hygiene

Cleanliness is key. Avoid the spread of bacteria by coughing and sneezing into a disposable tissue. It’s essential that you regularly wash your hands with anti-bacterial soap and avoid touching your face as much as possible.

If you have to leave your house to get necessities like food and medication, we recommended taking the following steps:

  1. Carry antibacterial wipes or hand sanitiser at all times.
  2. Immediately wash your hands when you get home, before you touch anything.

We offer a range of anti-bacterial supplies from antiseptic hand-sanitiser to anti-bacterial hand wipes. Stay safe and be sure to keep this type of equipment in your personal supply.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Personal Protective Equipment is vital for NHS staff and keyworkers, this equipment helps the essential services protect themselves and the lives of others.

This equipment helps to prevent cross contamination from other people and objects that you may come into contact with, however it is vital that you dispose of them after a single-use.

One of the main pieces of equipment for medical professionals and keyworkers, recommended by both the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Public Health England (PHE) are nitrile gloves. Keeping clean, particularly in a professional or busy environment, is one of the best ways to reduce the risk of infection and cross-contamination.

We would like to that this opportunity to thank the NHS and the fantastic healthcare professionals, emergency service, carers, and keyworkers who work tirelessly to keep our nation safe, we are eternally grateful. We will continue to play our role in doing all we can to support them.
